The Ones to Watch in 2013
Sony Music UK enters the new year with a slew of great, original new acts poised for success.
Describing herself as “the geeky kid of RnB”, Laura Mvula has already piqued the interest of critics and music fans alike with her debut ‘She EP’ released in November. Guardian and BBC Music writer Paul Lester described her sound as “like hearing Billie Holiday with The Beach Boys.”
Chichester-born musician Tom Odell has been writing songs since the age of 13 and has started amassing a sizeable fanbase, since his TV debut in 2012 on Later… with Jools Holland. He’s a nominee for the BRIT Awards’ Critics’ Choice Category this year.
Kodaline are four friends from Dublin who bonded over their love of bands bands like The Strokes, Radiohead and The Beatles. They first attracted attention with the release of ‘The Kodaline EP’ last September but peoples’ first introduction to their folky melodies was the tear-jerking video for their track ‘All I Want’ which was shared widely online and has notched up around a million views.
The band have already been championed by BBC Radio 1’s Fearne Cotton and tipped by MTV as ones to watch in 2013.
