Senior leaders from across the Sony companies took part in an International Women’s Day panel, hosted by Chair of the BPI, YolanDa Brown OBE and organised by women employee resource groups from Sony Electronics, PlayStation, and Sony Music (Sony Women in Music).
The senior leaders across Sony to make up the panel:
- Negla Abdela – Managing Director Ministry of Sound
- Angle Smet – VP and Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios
- Lettice Summerscale – VP of Marketing and Communications at Sony Music Publishing UK
- Mark Young – EVP Distribution and Networks at Sony Pictures Entertainment
- Damien Weissenburger – Director Specialised (B2B) Business Unit, Sony Professional Solutions Europe
The senior leaders joined together at the Sony Music Event Space to discuss this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Accelerate Action’ – which emphasises taking swift and decisive steps to attain gender equality.
The women talked about their career paths, workplace challenges, imposter syndrome, and confidence as well as the importance of empowering others through learning and development opportunities, giving them the skills for them to navigate that journey as they grow through the industry.
The men on the panel highlighted allyship, being an advocate, stepping forward and championing women in the organisation. Everyone spoke of the importance of mentorship and also acknowledged the supportive culture at Sony, with the many policies in place to enable more choice, such as the childcare grants and equal parental leave.
