Headie One and Fred again.. release ‘GANG’ mixtape
Headie One and Fred again.. have released their new mixtape, GANG, via Relentless Records.
GANG is the culmination of months of studio collaboration between Headie One and Fred again.., who first struck up a close friendship in 2019. Across the mixtape’s eight tracks, the duo are joined by artists and collaborators including FKA twigs, Jamie xx, Sampha, Octavian and Berwyn. Slowthai also makes an appearance, with his sampled voice featuring on ‘Tyron’.
The project was first teased in January with the release of the track ‘Charades’, followed by the lead single and title track ‘GANG’ – accompanied by an Arnaud Bresson-directed music video – in April.
“GANG comes from a different perspective from my previous projects,” said Headie One. “It’s much more raw with emotion, not just from my own narrative like Music X Road, but this time from my peers. GANG is a shared love of music from two people with different backgrounds.
“The title represents loyalty and friendship – these things are important to me, and Fred and I quickly developed this whilst recording the project over the past few months. We feel we really create something special when we’re together. GANG is a shared art-form – a positive energy for the UK in 2020.”
2019 was a huge year for Headie, seeing the release of his critically-acclaimed seventh mixtape Music X Road including the hit tracks ‘18HUNNA’ feat. Dave and ‘Both’. He went on to sell out his biggest headline show to date at Brixton Academy and appear on Stormzy’s hit single ‘Audacity’.
