Myles Smith named BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year 2024

Myles Smith has been named the 2024 BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year Award, following in the footsteps of the likes of Tom Grennan, Declan McKenna, Last Dinner Party, Celeste and Self Esteem.

The 26-year-old from Luton has had a huge year, with his Top 5 platinum hit Stargazing achieving one billion global streams, Number 1 Airplay in seven markets and even featuring on former US President Barack Obama’s summer playlist.

Myles said: “Honestly, I can’t believe it. Looking back at old photos of me as a kid with my guitar, just playing for the love of it, it feels unreal to be here now. This award isn’t just mine. It belongs to everyone who’s been on this journey with me. Everyone at BBC Introducing who gave me a shot, and all of you who’ve listened, shared and believed in me. I’m 26 now, and in many ways, I feel like I’m just getting started. There’s still so much I want to do, so many stories to tell. Here’s to all of us, to the journey and to whatever comes next. Thank you truly for the bottom of my heart. Most importantly, Luton is more than an airport.

Myles was presented with the Award by Dean Jackson from BBC Introducing in East Midlands and Kerrie Cosh from BBC Introducing Three Counties & Northants – stations that have supported him throughout his career.

Kelly Betts (Head of BBC Introducing) said: “It’s been an amazing year for Myles, but not everyone may realise how hard he has been working to get here. He has been creating and uploading beautiful songs since 2017, uploading 25 tracks in total with every single one being played on BBC Introducing. We have crowned Myles with the Artist Of The Year title but it’s more of a celebration of his hard work which got him here. It’s been a joy to watch Myles develop and is an absolute pleasure to call him the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year 2024. We are all buzzing to see where he goes from here, and wherever that might be, Introducing will be right there with him”.
