Sony Music UK’s childcare policy wins at Music Week’s Women in Music Awards

This year’s Women in Music Awards saw Sony Music’s childcare scheme taking home the prize in the DE&I Initiative of the Year category, which celebrates a business or organisation that has gone the extra mile to champion diversity and inclusion.

The landmark policy, a first for the music industry, was introduced by Sony Music in October 2022 and entitles parents to claim a significant financial contribution towards the cost of childcare for pre-school age children. The scheme provides employees with funding towards the cost of childcare during working hours and is structured to offer tapered grants, correlating to an individual employee’s salary. This entitles lower and middle earners the ability to benefit from increased funding, up to a maximum of £15,000 per year, towards childcare costs.

Liz Jeffery, VP of People Experience said: “We are making strides and continue to reframe the conversation around childcare, that companies must get better at keeping women in the workforce, supporting them and allowing them the choice about where they want their careers to go.

Congratulations to everyone involved in shaping and implementing this important policy, which demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to providing the best support for parents and addresses issues that can be a barrier for women progressing in the workplace.
