Anthem Award Win for Gender Representation in UK Dance Music report
The Jaguar Foundation has won an Anthem Award for its Progressing Gender Representation in UK Dance Music report, funded by the UK arm of Sony Music’s Global Social Justice Fund.
Granted by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences and The Anthem Awards, the report won Silver in the Research Projects or Publications category – in recognition of ‘informed research to educate, raise interest, knowledge, and or change perception or behaviour around a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion cause’.
The report, using research from a range of artists and industry executives, found conclusive evidence supporting long-held beliefs about gender disparity in electronic music – across the live industry, radio, streaming and music organisation employees – as well as a myriad of other discriminatory issues that female and non-binary people face in professional and social settings.
Reflecting on the report’s significance, Charlotte Edgeworth, Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Social Impact at Sony Music UK, said: “The publication of this research triggered important discussions across the industry and it is wonderful to see it recognised. Sony Music colleagues worked collaboratively with Jaguar to create this comprehensive insight into gender disparity in dance music and we, and others, continue to use these findings to create change and highlight opportunities for improvement.”
