August Royals comes to life where alternative mystique, empathetic songwriting, avant garde production, pop universality, and hip-hop rule-breaking clash and collide.
Championed by Kevin Abstract of Brockhampton, the Georgia-born Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter mines beauty from raw experience with affecting, anesthetizing, and arresting anthems about where he’s been (that only hint at where he’s going). As a result, his sound remains dutifully unpredictable, ebbing in and out of alternative bliss, eighties-style rock, and off-kilter hip-hop on his debut EP ‘Inhaler’.
“I take inspiration from every genre and create my own style out of that,” he says. “I’m pulling in different nostalgic moments and creating a sound that’s experimental, but familiar. I’ll have two songs that sound nothing alike, yet they’re still me at the core.”
“I dove into alternative, hip-hop, and singer-songwriter vibes,” he goes on. “I’ve been influenced by so many artists—Harry Styles, Alicia Keys, The 1975, Kevin Abstract, Taylor Swift, Mac Miller, and more. By listening and being inspired by these artists that all lived in different spaces musically, I ended up mashing together a bunch of sounds that created my own.”
