Since forming in 2010, StopWatch has led a wide-ranging campaign against the disproportionate use of stop and search, the increasing use of exceptional stop and search powers and the weakening of accountability mechanisms. This includes legal and policy analysis, media coverage and commentary, political advocacy, litigation, submissions to national and international organisations and community organising.
Impact at a glance
Sony Music UK’s Social Justice Fund subsidised a therapeutic support programme for children and parents to deal with the impact of the police’s stop and search policy that overwhelmingly affects young Black men, as well as the creation of a practical guide for families with advice and tools.
The funding has allowed StopWatch to develop and test their Rights and Wellbeing RAW project via an online summit and working with partners and practitioners.
