Sony Women join One Sony panel for International Women’s Day
The Sony companies, including Sony Music UK, Sony Playstation, Sony Publishing and Sony Pictures, came together to take part in Sony’s ‘One Sony’ event for International Women’s Day on the 8th March 2023.
The event was organised by the employee-led women’s group, Sony Women in Music (SWIM), and moderated by OBE and Chair of BPI, YolanDa Brown.
The leading women across Sony to make up the panel:
- Sony Music UK: Amy Wheatley, Managing Director at Columbia Records
- Sony Music UK: Taponeswa Mavunga, Director of Africa, Sony Music UK
- Sony Interactive Entertainment: Veronica Rogers, SVP, Head of Global Sales & Business Operations
- Sony Music Publishing: Sonia Grant-Yendell, VP, People Experience, UK & International
- Sony Pictures: Jacqui Marshall, EVP, Legal Affairs
The panel discussed their journey to their current roles and talked about the barriers, challenges and stigma faced by women in the workplace. They examined the reasons why women leave the workforce and looked at the various initiatives to improve gender equality and equity.
Sony Music’s equal parental leave and childcare cost policies were hailed as being a vital step forward in the journey to eliminate barriers for women and alleviate the pressures of being a working parent. Sony Music’s policies to support women experiencing issues such as miscarriage, domestic abuse and menopause were also praised.
In the insightful and empowering session, the panellists closed the talk with some wise words they would tell their younger selves:
Amy: Be kind and work hard.
Taponeswa: Operate from a place of abundance as opposed to scarcity.
Jacqui: Remember it’s a really long game. People think very short-term. You have a long time, no need to rush.
Veronica: There will be bad career days and bad personal days. Have courage to get through it. Bring your positivity to work, bring your positivity to life. Give people positive energy.
Sonia: Trust your gut, trust your instinct. When you’re focused you can achieve what you want. Trust your belief.
